MzansiMed is a breakthrough mobile app that puts healthcare into every South African’s language. Powered by AI, it translates medicine instructions in real time, making them clear, accurate, and culturally relevant, whether patients speak isiXhosa, Afrikaans, English, or another local language. For those with hearing barriers, it also ensures accessible communication.
The goal is simple but powerful: to help people understand their medicines better, and to achieve safer, healthier outcomes.
Born at the University of the Western Cape’s School of Pharmacy, MzansiMed is a bold collaboration with Stellenbosch University’s Department of Computer Science and UWC’s Linguistics Department. Together, our team blends pharmaceutical expertise, AI design, and linguistic insight to deliver technology that truly speaks to the needs of our communities.
Our beta version is already live, and we’re inviting healthcare providers, patients, and community partners to test, share feedback, and help us refine the experience.
